St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Receives Nuclear Cardiology Accreditation

St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Outpatient Cardiovascular Testing Department has recently been granted a three-year term of accreditation in Nuclear Cardiology by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC). This is the seventh year St. Elizabeth’s has held this accreditation, as St. Elizabeth’s first received this accreditation in 2007. Nuclear Cardiology is often used for early detection of life threatening heart disorders and other diseases.

A Transition Ceremony was held recently for the five Registered Nurses who completed St. Elizabeth’s Versant RN Residency Program, which is one of the numerous programs St. Elizabeth’s offers as a Teaching Hospital.

They play an essential role in helping the hospital succeed by sharing their time. “Bring a Buddy” to April 29 Blood Drive to receive Gateway Grizzlies baseball tickets

St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, in conjunction with the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center (MVRBC), is hosting a blood drive on Tuesday, April 29, in the Millennium Room from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Convenient parking is available just outside the Southern Illinois Heart Institute building at 340 West Lincoln Street (the back of the hospital). To schedule a donation time call the MVRBC at 618-659-0542 or log on to www.bloodcenterimpact.org and use Sponsor Code: 10155. Walk-ins are welcome but appointments are suggested.
As a special incentive for this spring drive, MVRBC is giving away Gateway Grizzlies baseball tickets to anyone who brings a “buddy” to donate with them.
A blood donor can give every eight weeks, or up to six times a year. All persons age 17 and up (or 16, with a signed parental permission form) who weigh at least 110 lbs. and are in general good health meet the basic eligibility requirements for blood donation.
MVRBC is proud to be the provider of blood products and services to 87 hospitals, including St. Elizabeth’s, in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin. As inventory allows, MVRBC also provides additional units to hospitals across the country through a national resource sharing program.

St. Elizabeth’s Hospital offers free Diabetes Risk Tests on March 25

St. Elizabeth’s Hospital will provide free Diabetes Risk Tests on Tuesday, March 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in honor of American Diabetes Association Alert Day®. This national event is a “wake-up call” asking the American public to take the Diabetes Risk Test to find out if they are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes. The free tests will be located in the main hospital lobby, at 211 South Third Street Belleville, IL 62220 as well as in the Prairie Heart Institute lobby, at 340 West Lincoln Street.
The Diabetes Risk Tests are available for all ages. Representatives from St. Elizabeth’s Diabetes Support Group, Wound Care Center and the American Diabetes Association will be present to answer questions individuals may have regarding diabetes nutritional education, diabetes support groups and wound/skin care tips for diabetic patients.
