(Belleville, IL) – It doesn’t take an Einstein to recognize an aortic aneurysm, just a simple screening ultrasound. Prairie Heart Institute at HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital now offers a screening ultrasound to identify abdominal aortic aneurysms, the third leading cause of sudden death in men over 60. It is also what caused Albert Einstein’s death in 1955.

A memorial statue was dedicated to honor the late Anil Shah, MD, at HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital on Friday, June 17. He was a long-time champion in bringing high-quality cardiology physicians and advanced technologies to Southwestern Illinois.

HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, in partnership with Prairie Cardiovascular Consultants, is the first facility in the Metro East to utilize the new MultiPoint Pacing technology, featured on the Quadra Allure MP™ CRT-pacemaker (CRT-P). Prairie cardiologist Dr. Atul Shah performed the procedure today in the multi-million dollar electrophysiology lab at the Belleville campus.

(Belleville, IL) – HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, in conjunction with Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center (MVRBC), is hosting a blood drive on Tuesday, June 21 in the Millennium Room from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Convenient parking is available just outside the Prairie Heart Institute Building (Bldg. A) at 340 West Lincoln Street (the back of the hospital).

(Belleville, IL) – Recently, HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital awarded Chelsea Watson, a Registered Nurse from the Float Pool, the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's nationwide program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.


Open House and Demonstration of New da Vinci Robotic Surgical System, May 16

In April 2016, HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital installed the da Vinci Xi Surgical System, a robotic technology used for minimally invasive procedures. An Open House and Demonstration event is scheduled for Monday, May 16 from 3-6pm in the Centennial Room at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. The public is welcome to see the robotic surgery system in action and hear from the highly-skilled surgeons who will be performing the complex procedures with the robot.
