St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Invites Community to Join Toastmasters International Club

Belleville – St. Elizabeth’s Hospital invites area community members to join its Toastmasters International Club, a nonprofit organization, focusing on communication and leadership development, in which professionals can gain confidence and public speaking skills in a relaxed, supportive environment.

Meetings occur on the first and third Thursday of each month from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in the Millennium Room of Medical Office Building A, located at 340 W. Lincoln Street, Belleville, IL 62220. An alternate meeting time and location is also available on the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at Passages Hospice, located at 16 Bronze Point North, #A, Swansea, IL 62226.

St. Elizabeth’s Hospital chose to charter a Toastmaster International club as a beneficial colleague development opportunity in February 2013, and has since opened the club to the community.  Members have the option to attend either meeting time organized by St. Elizabeth’s Club, or to attend one of the 13,500 clubs in 116 countries that make up Toastmasters International’s global network of meeting locations.

At each meeting, members have the opportunity to improve leadership and speaking skills by taking turns giving presentations in a relaxed environment, which includes a friendly evaluation from their peers, along with constructive criticism for growth. The cost to become a member is $36 biannually.

“Toastmasters is one of the greatest investments you can make in yourself, as either a current leader or aspiring business community member,” said Emily Wilson, St. Elizabeth’s Club President.  No matter how strong of communicator you are, everyone can work to improve. Whether it’s improving your eye contact, reducing use of filler words, like ah and um, strengthening your vocabulary, or improving your nonverbal communication, Toastmasters can help you reach the next level for success.”

If you feel unsure about joining the club, free guest visits are encouraged. To find out more about Toastmasters International, visit www.toastmasters.org or contact Emily Wilson at Emily.Wilson@hshs.org or 234-2120, extension 1594.
