Friends of St. Elizabeth's Hospital raise over $228,000 at Elizabethan event

On Friday, November 1, more than $228,000 was raised as over 250 people gathered at St. Clair Country Club to celebrate the annual Elizabethan Gala Fundraiser. The Elizabethan has become a traditional fall event for many members of the community, featuring an evening of fellowship and fundraising accompanied by dinner, music and celebrations.

“We appreciate the support demonstrated by our community, physicians, and colleagues during this annual celebration,” expressed Maryann Reese, President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital.  “Our patient care is enhanced with the technology and resources provided by their generosity.”

“These donations benefit the Friends of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, allowing us to support the purchase of laptops with barcode scanners for phlebotomy, ventricular assist device for post-op cardiac surgical patients, blanket warmers, and a gamma probe for use for cancer treatment patients,” noted Natalie Jablonski, Director of Development and Mission Services.  “We are blessed with the generosity of our community.”
In addition to the fundraising portion of the event, the hospital awarded three Every Hand Healing™ 2013 Service Awards to Catherine Taylor Yank, Bill B. Daily, MD, and Reverend Carolyn Frus.

About the Awardees:
Catherine Taylor Yank
Catherine has been involved in the roofing business for more than 44 years.  She was the first woman selected as the Outstanding Woman in Construction by Arizona State University’s Department of Construction and the Greater Phoenix Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction.  She has been recognized by the American Society of Professional Estimators as the 1994 National Estimator of the Year, and as a Fellow Certified Professional Estimator. Catherine has completed several terms on the Board of ASPE Board of Trustees. Her community service has been acknowledged with the Carl L. Schweinfurth Rotarian of the Year in 2000. Catherine later served Rotary International District 6510 as Governor during the 2005-06 year, and she remains an active Rotarian with the Rotary Club of O’Fallon Sunrise, Illinois. She currently serves as Chairman of the Friends Leadership Council at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital where she shares her time and talents, and is a member of the St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Heritage Society which acknowledges those who have made a commitment to the Hospital by including a legacy gift within their estate plan.

Bill B. Daily, MD
Dr. Bill Daily has been a member of the St. Elizabeth’s Medical Staff since July 15, 1996.  As a Cardiothoracic Surgeon with CardioThoracic Surgery Associates, Swansea, Illinois, Dr. Daily is loved by his patients and is considered a highly respected member of the St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Medical Staff by both his medical staff colleagues and the St. Elizabeth’s Hospital nursing staff.  He is a member of the Belleville Hospitals’ Golf & Tennis Classic committee, which has helped to raise more than $1.4 million since its inception in 1984 to support healthcare within the community.  Dr. Daily’s colleagues describe him as being a “great physician that delivers top quality care to his patients,” and he is considered a true demonstration of St. Elizabeth’s core values.

Reverend Carolyn Frus
Rev. Cari joined the Pastoral Care team at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in 2006 and quickly became part of the Hospital community.  Recognized throughout the Hospital for her warm smile and engaging manner, Rev. Cari is frequently called upon by members of the St. Elizabeth’s family for her expertise, compassion and guidance.  Beyond her direct role in Pastoral care, she provides ethics orientation for new nurse colleagues, functions as a de-briefer and subject matter expert for the RN Residency, facilitates access to the Employee Assistance Committee, and plans and organizes the non-denominational Good Friday Service.  Rev. Cari has also been instrumental in the success of the central leadership council and the formation of the Hospital’s Joy Committee.  One of her most recent initiatives has been to lend her vision and expertise to the Palliative Care Consortium, coordinating the St. Elizabeth’s palliative care initiative to being one step closer to becoming a reality.
