St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Wound Care Center now open in new location with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Belleville, IL — St. Elizabeth’s Hospital is pleased to announce the addition of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy to our specialized Wound Care Center, which began seeing patients in a new location on October 28. The new center is now located on the first floor of the main hospital at 211 South Third Street, Belleville, (formerly Therapy Services). The newly remodeled location currently houses two Hyperbaric Oxygen Chambers, with room for four to accommodate future growth.
Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) is an additional treatment option to the center’s comprehensive wound care program, which treats chronic or non-healing wounds caused by diabetes, circulatory problems, and other conditions. HBO Therapy helps to increase oxygen to the body, by allowing patients to breathe 100% oxygen in a pressurized chamber. The increase in oxygen helps to carry nutrients to wounds through the bloodstream, which improves healing in problematic wounds.
“The addition of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for our center and our region is exciting,” said Misty Conway, Program Director for the Center. “There are a lot of people, especially in the metro-east area, who will be able to benefit from HBO services at our Wound Care Center. While HBO Therapy is not for everyone, our team of specially-trained professionals work in partnership with each patient and their physician to utilize a variety of clinical treatments, therapies and support services to help our patients achieve the best possible standard of living.”
“While St. Elizabeth’s Wound Care Center is designed to complement the services offered by patients’ primary care physicians, patients can also be seen with or without a physician’s referral. Individuals with wounds that have not begun to heal after four weeks are encouraged to call St. Elizabeth’s Wound Care Center at 618-234-2120, ext. 2742 for an evaluation,” notes Conway.
Appointment times are available five days a week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Some of the indications for wound therapy include:
• Diabetic ulcers
• Pressure ulcers
• Ischemic ulcers
• Neuropathic ulcers
• Peristomal skin irritations
• Surgical wounds
• Traumatic wounds
• Venous insufficiency
