St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Welcomes Three
New Physicians to Medical Staff
Donald Bassman, MD-Orthopedic Surgeon; Girish Mood, MD-Interventional Cardiologist; and Charles Smittkamp, MD-Radiologist

Belleville – St. Elizabeth’s Hospital announces the addition three physicians to our medical staff. The are Donald Bassman, MD, Girish Mood, MD, and Charles Smittkamp, MD.

Dr. Bassman specializes in orthopedic surgery. He is a graduate of the Washington University Medical School and completed his orthopedic residency at Barnes Jewish Hospital. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He maintains faculty appointment at Washington University Medical School. He is also a member of the American Medical Association, St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society, Missouri Medical Society, St. Louis Orthopedic Society, and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Dr. Bassman specializes in shoulder and knee arthroscopy surgery and total joint construction. Operating hours at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital are Tuesdays from 7:30-11:30 a.m. and Fridays from 11:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Dr. Mood is an interventional cardiologist who earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at Bangalore University in Bangalore, India. He has completed fellowships in Coronary and Endovascular Intervention at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center/Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, MA, and in Cardiovascular Medicine at Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI.  He is a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine, the Society of Vascular Medicine, the American Heart Association, the American Stroke Association, and others.
Radiologist Dr. Smittkamp is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is certified for Diagnostic Radiology by the American Board of Radiology. He most recently was a Neuroradiology Fellow at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Physicians on our medical staff have chosen St. Elizabeth’s as a place to treat and care for their patients. Drs. Bassman, Mood, and Smittkamp are not employees of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital.
