Leadership receive ILPEx trophy for 2013 Bronze "Commitment to Excellence" Award
On March 27, members of the St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Administrative team and Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) Chief Operating Officer Larry Schumacher, were formally presented with the 2013 Bronze Award for “Commitment to Excellence” from Illinois Performance Excellence (ILPEx) at their annual awards ceremony in Glen Ellyn, Il. St. Elizabeth’s Hospital was one of only three recipients of the Bronze Award in this statewide quality program, which follows the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence.
This award is given to organizations, throughout the state of Illinois, who adopt and demonstrate continuous improvement practices in an on-going journey toward excellence.
“This award is owed to the dedication of our colleagues at the hospital, at every level, for their professional approach to quality and excellence when caring for patients and visitors,” said Maryann Reese, RN, St. Elizabeth’s Hospital President and Chief Executive Officer. “It validates that we consistently use clinical best practices and performance improvement planning to provide high quality health care to our community.”
Founded in 1994 as the Lincoln Foundation for Performance Excellence, ILPEx uses the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence to determine performance excellence of select Illinois organizations from five sectors: business, education, government, health care and not-for-profit.
“Key strategic goal planning has set the stage for our organization’s approach to performance improvement,” Reese noted. “Our pillars of excellence include dedication to our mission, development and engagement of employees, integration of quality care, financial stewardship and patient safety.”
During the vigorous application process and site survey for this award, the hospital quantified data trends, analysis measurement processes, operational results and more. One of the many achievements noted was improved employee engagement scores from the 25th to the 93rd national percentile, which also garnered The Advisory Board Company’s 2013 Exceptional Improvement in Engagement Award. Other examples of performance excellence stemmed from Lean Six Sigma projects led by managers from across the organization.
